Energy Chews Orange

How do I get my puppy with a broken leg not to run around like a nut??

My puppy is only 12 weeks old and he has one (maybe two) hairline fractures in his left hind leg. He has a soft cast on which I use this bitter orange stuff so he doesn’t chew it off, but he’s super high energy. He’s a miniature pinscher/ chihuahua mix so before his accident he ran around like a nut all the time, now he’s more calm but I worry about him hurting his leg further. He tries to stand up on his back legs to get to things and just do things that make me worry. The vet just said to keep his activities low and only let him outside to potty, etc. She said he needs to be confined (like a crate) when I’m not with him and not to be around other dogs. Any advice? I hate to crate him as he still whines and barks everytime (something I’m working on and would also appreciate tips on!). Thanks!

Like the vet said to keep him in the cage, I know it’s hard to see him confined to a small space, but you have to think it’s for his benefit.

When he’s in the cage keep him around you, don’t leave him in a room alone when he’s in the cage, pay attention to him when he’s in there too, try to get him used to it.

Definitly keep him away from other animals to help reduce his high energy.

Good luck and I hope your puppy feel better!!!!

Healthy Eating Tricks

Manners and Ambiance Helps!

Eat slowly. Chew through and through. Lay down your food and tableware after each bite.

Entertain yourself with gradual sounds. Accelerated music bring on speed eating, pushing to the limits your digestive system and leaves you craving again after only a few hours have passed.

Eating in front of the TV can lead to overeating because you’re not focused on the amount you’ve swallowed.

Eating from a plate and drinking from a glass coloured blue will mean your breathing and pulse rate may be lowered due to the colour blue having this effect.

Mint will make you feel less hungry due to a soothing effect on the brain. You can get mint in scented candles, herbal teas, essential oils and even aerosol spray. A couple other scents that work well are green apple and banana.

Hanging calming pieces of art that do not contain food will not make you think about food. If you hang artwork around that has food in it you will set off senses in your brain that will want to eat.

Avoid red, orange, yellow, lines, stipes, circles and dots. Or use them to give you energy when you’re exercising.

For Junkfood Junkies

Don’t fill your fridge and your shelves with junk food. Things like softdrinks and candy should not be bought. Slice up some fruit and veggies and leave this on the bench so if you find yourself peckish these are within grasp.

Calorie content of other refreshments: 8 oz Grape Juice = 154, 8 oz Orange Juice = 112, 8 oz Soft-drink = 103, Sports drinks = 50. To restrain your intake, stay with suggested intake. If a single bottle or carton is 20 oz and you drink it all straight away, you will be taking in more than the said amount.

A fresh orange has only sixty two calories in comparison to 112 in commercial juices. But orange juice from frozen concentrate has 25% more vitamin C than those in ready-to-drink cartons because it does not undergo pasteurization.

Munching on 1/2 cup of fruit cocktail in thick syrup means 100 calories while the same mixed fruit in juice mixture only has 60 calories.

Pick low-fat, unbuttered microwave popcorn. When at the movies dont go for the bigger sizes. Choose the size lower than you normally get. Then the next go an even lower size. Maybe no butter or no salt next time aswell.

When you crave salty and greasy potato chips, stick to low fat or baked. Again, buy the smallest size.

Swap salted, spicy, oily peanuts with honey-roasted, boiled or plain ones. Try other varieties of nuts like almond, pistachio and chestnuts.

Chew on some gum instead of suckling on sugar-loaded tough candy. It works the jaws which increases the natural saliva production which helps to curb your appetite, improves your memory and concentration. Swallow a menthol or eucalyptus cough drop to help aswell.
Eat grapes or raisins for your sweet tooth. Or munch on jellybeans and gummy bears instead of M&Ms and cookies. Gelatin is also good.

For dessert, buy non- or low-fat frozen yoghurt or ice cream. If you want the normal kind, choose plain flavors in small individual sizes and add fresh fruit slices.

Remember The Good Stuff!

Water also washes out toxins, defends against UTI and constipation, can lessen headaches and cleans your skin.

Don’t be afraid of milk! The protein and calcium in milk will help build bone density and help burn fat.
Buy slim and low fat milks instead of full cream. Keep the full cream milk for the kids.

Make fish and poultry your protein source, not beef and pork.

If you need red meat for a special meal, boil and then freeze your meat to allow the fat in it to rise and then solidify. Slice off the layer before you use the tenderized meat.

Put veggies and spices in the broth for a healthy clear soup.

Eating fresh fruits and give you added fiber and exercises your slack jaws. A healthy adult requires about 60mg of Vitamin C everyday to keep their body healthy which equates to about 6 oz of orange juice. Pregnant and breastfeeding woman and smokers and drinkers should be eating twice as many fruit and veggies. Attempt to eat 5 full servings of veggies and fruits a day.
