Does anyone know how to test anti-microbial properties of any seed extract? the methodology, I mean.?

this is for a research paper I’m doing…I don’t know any process to test anti-microbial properties…any test…please…

The easiest thing is the paper disc method. First you have to figure out how to make agar plates that are seeded with bacteria. You boil some agar, then as it is cooling, but before it hardens, you mix it with a bacterial culture. Now you pour it into a petri dish. If you put this in an incubator, by the next day you will have a plate of agar with a smooth coat of bacteria on the surface–that’s assuming you do nothing to it.

To test the antimicrobial activity of something, take some small filter paper discs and soak them with the substances you are testing. Now when you are pouring your bacteria plates, just wait until they solidify, then put a paper disc soaked with your chemical right in the middle of each plate. Put the plates in the incubator and check them the next day. If your chemical has antibacterial properties, you will see a ring around the paper disk where bacteria didn’t grow.

That’s the basic idea. You can measure the radius of the halo to compare the strengths of different things you are testing. You will also need appropriate controls, of course.
